Ancient Horizons

Original Painting by

Jennifer M. Stevens

30" X 48"

Medium:  Duck Creek Clay and Lakota Earth Paint with Acrylic Paint on Canvas.

Ancient Horizons designs are inspired by the research that Jennifer M. Stevens did on a 500 year span of prehistoric Oneida Pottery from 1100 AD to 1600's.  Jennifer M. Stevens has researched Oneida Pottery from 900 AD to late 1600"s and most of the designs came from Dr. Peter P. Pratt's book, Archeology of the Oneida Iroquois (Vol. 1).  Stevens used Texture medium to create the pottery textures, Clay from the banks of Duck Creek where Jennifer M. Stevens grew up in Oneida, WI, and the Oneidas used clay to create their Earthenware Cooking Vessels and used Lakota Earth Paints to create the colors for this painting.  She also used metallic Copper and Gold paint to bring out the highlights of her painting textures.  Copper metal was used by Oneida people and Gold represents the Gold found in the Black Hills, SD; both considered sacred from our Mother Earth.
